Who we are
Cyser makes friendly guides, videos, webinars, podcasts and events that help people a little more mature in years, and the families who help them, get more from their iPhone, iPad and Mac. Most of it is presented by Cy, our AI guide.

This policy covers our websites (cyser.org, learn.cyser.org and our shop at shop.cyser.org), our social media channels on Instagram (@cyser_org), Facebook, YouTube and TikTok, our webinars and podcasts, our downloadable guides and videos, and our online and in-person events.
About Cy and AI
Cy is an AI character created by Cyser. He is not a real person. His image, voice and videos are made with AI tools, and everything he says is written and checked by the Cyser team. We also use AI to help write parts of our guides, which a person always reviews before they're published.
Here's how that affects your information:
- Questions you send to Cy. If you send a question for a webinar, podcast or Q&A, we may use it in a future episode, and Cy may read it out or answer it. We'll never use your full name or anything that identifies you without your permission.
- Live sessions with Cy. Where Cy answers you live, what you type or say is processed by our AI providers to create his reply. Please don't share passwords, money details or other sensitive information in these sessions.
- No automated decisions. Cy gives general guidance. We never use AI to make decisions that have a legal or similarly important effect on you.
- Not used to train AI. We don't give your personal information to AI providers to train their general models, and we choose providers whose terms allow this.
Cy's content is general information. It isn't personal professional advice or technical support.
What we collect and why
UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) says we need a lawful reason, called a "lawful basis", for each use of your information. Here's what we collect, why, and our lawful basis for each.
| What we collect | Why we use it | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, email and anything you tell us when you get in touch | To reply to you | Legitimate interests |
| Your name, email and order details when you buy or download a guide or video | To send your purchase and keep tax records | Contract; legal obligation |
| A record that you agreed to our Terms and Conditions at checkout | To show what was agreed if there's ever a question about an order | Contract; legitimate interests |
| Sign-ups for webinars, podcasts and events | To send joining details, reminders and recordings | Contract or legitimate interests |
| Questions you send to Cy | To create webinar, podcast and Q&A content | Legitimate interests; consent if we name you |
| Newsletter and marketing sign-ups | To send Cy's tips and Cyser news | Consent (unsubscribe any time) |
| Photos or video at in-person events | To share and promote our events, with notice on the day | Legitimate interests; consent for close-ups |
| How you use our websites and social media (pages viewed, rough location, device type) | To see what's useful, improve our content and measure our adverts | Consent for non-essential cookies; legitimate interests |
We don't ask for sensitive information such as health details. If you share it with us anyway, we'll only use it to reply to you, and delete it when it's no longer needed.
Information outside the UK
Some of our providers, including AI and hosting services, store information outside the UK. When that happens, we make sure suitable protections are in place, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep it
- Messages and enquiries: up to 2 years after we last hear from you
- Purchase records, including your agreement to our terms: 6 years, for tax and legal reasons
- Questions sent to Cy: up to 12 months, unless used in published content
- Marketing details: until you unsubscribe
- Event photos and recordings: for as long as they're published, unless you ask us to remove you.
Keeping it safe
We protect your information with access controls, encryption where available and secure, managed Apple devices. We follow the same security habits Cy recommends to everyone else.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct or delete it
- object to, or limit, how we use it
- withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing
- ask us to move your information to another organisation
- ask us to remove your question or image from Cy's published content.
Email hello@cyser.org to use any of these rights. We'll reply within one month, and there's no charge in most cases.
Children
Our services are meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Other websites
Our websites and Cy's content link to sites we don't run, such as Payhip, YouTube and Instagram. They have their own privacy policies, and we're not responsible for how they use your information.
For the rules on using our website and buying from us, see our Terms and Conditions.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our services or the tools we use change, and change the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also tell you by email or a clear notice on our website before they take effect.
Contact and complaints
Email hello@cyser.org, or write to Cyser Ltd, Office 1116, 3 Fitzroy Place, 1/1 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G3 7RH.
